Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday that she had broken up with her partner Andrea Giambruno, a television journalist who has come under fire recently for making sexist remarks on the air.

“This marks the end of my nearly ten-year relationship with Andrea Giambruno,” the woman posted on Facebook. “Our paths have diverged for some time, and the time has come to acknowledge it,” she said.
The pair has a little girl.
Presenting a news program for Mediaset, a division of the MFE media business owned by the heirs of the late Silvio Berlusconi, a former premier and ally of Meloni, is Giambruno.
Two days this week, snippets of Giambruno’s show that showed him using profanity and seeming to approach a female coworker were shown off-air by another Mediaset program.
He asks her, “Why didn’t I meet you before?”
Giambruno is heard bragging about an affair and promising female coworkers they may work for him if they engage in group sex in the second, more graphic tape that was broadcast on Thursday.
In August, the TV journalist faced significant backlash for remarks that seemed to place the blame on victims in the wake of a gang rape case.
“If you go dancing, you have every right to get drunk – there shouldn’t be any kind of misunderstanding and any kind of problem – but if you avoid getting drunk and losing your senses, you might also avoid running into certain problems and coming across a wolf,” he stated in his program.

Following that incident, Meloni declared that she would not respond to inquiries about her partner’s behavior going forward and that she shouldn’t be held accountable for the remarks he made.
